2010 leaving cert predictions?

Any ideas? Drop us a comment below if you have any ideas. It would be great if people from around the country were working together to try and predict what’s gonna be on this years paper.

If you looked back at past papers and see some patterns feel free to share your opinions and someone might agree with you.

Just looking back over the exam papers for the previous 4 to 5 years will give you a good idea of what is or isn’t coming up, unless of course the course has changed. Maybe your teacher has tried to analyse the past papers and try to help you create a study plan. If so don’t be afraid to share your tips. That’s what this site is for…

In subjects like maths or science it’s maybe easier to see patterns than say English for example but we’re sure that people have been able to focus on specific areas to study in the past and get good grades so why don’t you all work together and give it a try too!

  1. HL Irish – pattern for prose: An Bean ร“g, Clare sa Spรฉir, An Bean ร“g .. etc .. been like that for the past 11 years, An Bean ร“g came up in 2009 … if they’re not mean, Clare sa Spรฉir will be on for 2010

  2. HL Irish – pattern for prose: An Bean รƒโ€œg, Clare sa Spรƒยฉir, An Bean รƒโ€œg .. etc .. been like that for the past 11 years, An Bean รƒโ€œg came up in 2009 … if they're not mean, Clare sa Spรƒยฉir will be on for 2010

  3. In the Higher English papers I have noticed that it has been a while since W.B.Yeats came up. All of the others like Eavan Boland, Patrick Kavanagh and Derek Walcott have came up over the past few years. My teacher told us that there may be a possibilty of Yeats coming up in June. He also came up in the mocks so it really does look likely.

    1. Yeats has always been a favourite on the English paper (I even heard that if he comes up the examiners are more impressed if you answer on him!) So I would defo not leave out Yeats! ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. My teacher who has written one of the poetry books on our course and had predicted correct every year has said BOLAND, LONGELY and YEATS! That’s what I’m doing… sorted! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. Chemistry H.L : Water hardness titration highly possible for question 1, Boland almost a definite for English H.L. along with Yeats! Polaiteoirรญ in some form for the irish H.L Aiste, or now maybe Scannal na hEaglaise! Anyone think similar?

    1. yep we were made learn about people having no respect for politicians anymore and also about the power of the church ending and the abuse in the church.. what do you think about re na nuatheicneolaiochta??

    2. our economics teacher reckons perfect and imperfect comp are more ordinary level. she thinks it’ll be oligopoly or monopoly or a combination. nobody seems to think eliot will be up for poetry and he’s basically all i’ve learned.. hate boland and despise yeats

    3. In Economics HL Oligopoly is next to come up but because its too obvious they are almost certain to mix it in with something else. I’d learn all the market structures except Imperfect as it came up last year.

  20. Boland and Kavanagh are rumoured to be coming up on the English Paper. I’ve heard Yeats too.

I’m counting on Newgrange for Art History, but the Bronze Age might also come up. Also Massaccio, Donatello, Uccello, Van Eyck, Da Vinci and the Post-Impressionists are predicted by my Art teacher.

Jack for the Ordinary Level Poem on the Higher Level Paper. Oรญche Nollag na mBan for the other part.

    1916 for History.

(These are all just predictions by my teachers, so I apologise if they’re wrong!)

As regards the Fool I’d imagine you would maybe work him into a question on Lear’s journey, and how The Fool served to interpret the events of the play, and always provide Lear with the truth, even if he doesn’t realise it to begin with. Good luck everybody ๐Ÿ™‚

  92. English (HL) paper 2

Rich,Yeats,Kavanagh,Boland ( Possible question for yeats : ”write a poetry anthology for the poetry of W.B Yeats for young people to introduce them to the poetry of Yeats”)
King Lear – Metaphorical blindness. Sibling rivalry, Lear as a tragic hero. Machiavellianism ( Severe Evilness) Edmund as a machiavellian character. Good vs evil. Pity and sympathy.

Comparative – Literary genre, general vision and view point.
( I have many tips from several teachers to do the 70 mark question not the split question)

Unseen poetry – use the SLITST formula and ALWAYS choose the PERSONAL RESPONSE QUESTION.

Symbolism (symbols in the poem you see and are suggested by the poet)
Language (what kind of language is the poet speaking in? formal/informal etc…)
Images (discuss the images if any within the poem)
Tone (Tone of the poem, this may also tie in with alliteration etc. use of pathetic falacy)
Sound or simile (similarities in the poem, also refer to the contrasts , universalise it with your own opinion to engage in the question)
Technique (the techniques used by the poet to express their own personal opinion and how it effects you and your judgement as a reader of the poem)

Write the formula SLITST down in your mind map so you are prepared and know what to do straight away, most of us will only have 10 minutes to this question anyway, time is an issue.
Then write short paragraphs on each heading and givce your personal opinion as well as universalising with the world of today as we know it.

Geography : Irish primary and secondary and tertiary activities in regional geography i’d know them all just to be sure. so were talkin GDA (GREATER DUBLIN AREA) which is Dublin where mostly tertiary activities are, the BMW (BORDER MIDLAND AND WEST) where you have mostly primary like fishing and farming. I’d also draw an outline map of the GDA and BMW regions in a frame with your question, mark in the counties in each region just a quick map will get you 5-8 marks. if it’s neat.
Mezzogiorno, paris basin and the sub-continental region which is India.

Irish landform comes up every year and even if it’s non irish you can still do waterfall thats my plan, 3 diagrams of formation of waterfall, one page explanation then your example 28 out of 30 hopefully.

START with the ESSAY first or geoecology whatever you did in your school. I did culture and identity and i studied RACE , RELIGION AND LANGUAGE AS A CULTURAL INDICATOR. I have Ireland, California, Northern Ireland and then multi racial groups. Write it like an english essay but don’t make it personal, lots of facts and SRPS even if you don’t know anything you can pull off 50 out of 80 marks with the basic info from a revise wise. Dont forget the investigation is 20% too so don’t panic too much.

European Union is to come up I hear too in a map to identify places etc..
THE ROCK CYCLE DEFINITELY and KARST LANDSCAPES.
    LIMESTONE PAVEMENT
    FOLDING AND FAULTING
EARTHQUAKE CASE STUDY KNOW 1 OR 2 IF POSSIBLE
    VOLCANO CASE STUDY

Short questions are same format every year so be able to identify clouds, cold fronts and of course know how to do GRID REFERENCES. L.E.N (LETTER EASTING NORTHING) JUST A MEMORY TIP I USE IT TO REMEMBER HOW TO DO IT :).

SKETCH MAP OF PHOTO OR MAP
BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY LANFORMS LIKE LAGOONS AND BAYS ETC.. ON ORDNANCE SURVEY MAPS

    Good luck everyone

      HELP !!!!

      good luck

    1. Learn a lot on the Basque region, that’s very broad and could cover a few questions.

    1. I think so but wouldnt be sure. Even do 2 or 3 whole questions right on paper 1 and like 4 on paper to. i do question 11 on maths paper 2 it’s easy enough to do if you’re stuck. do bits of everything from all the questions and you’ll be fine

    2. Absolutely… you can get every single answer wrong and still pass… just write down everything step by step…

Don’t worry about getting the right answer… we’re trained to feel guilty about getting things wrong but maths is one of those subjects where there is a lot of marks going for attempting things.

Have a crack at everything and even if you don’t have a clue write down the question and have a wild stab at it!

  149. If you’ve done the geography project does that restrict what level paper you do? Is that for a common level or if you do it in higher do you have to sit a higher exam?

  150. The geography investigation is worth a higher percentage for ordinary level. if you switch on the day your investigation will just be marked differently.

  152. This site is load of bullshit, i have done two exams so far, basing some of my questions in suggestions from here, thanks for the fail guys!

  153. anyone have solid tips for (history higher), i'm thinking 1916 for irish, stalin/lenin for europe, and economic boom for us! i'd say sunningdale is certain???

  154. U got nearly everthing rite 4 english except boland ๐Ÿ™ haha wondering if u have any tips on Geography?

  155. Greetings dudes! Thank god about english i knew it was gonna be yeats and rich i answered rich and literary genre cause i didnt do gv and v in my school.

Geography : Irish primary and secondary and tertiary activities in regional geography i'd know them all just to be sure. so were talkin GDA (GREATER DUBLIN AREA) which is Dublin where mostly tertiary activities are, the BMW (BORDER MIDLAND AND WEST) where you have mostly primary like fishing and farming. I'd also draw an outline map of the GDA and BMW regions in a frame with your question, mark in the counties in each region just a quick map will get you 5-8 marks. if it's neat.
Mezzogiorno, paris basin and the sub-continental region which is India.

Irish landform comes up every year and even if it's non irish you can still do waterfall thats my plan, 3 diagrams of formation of waterfall, one page explanation then your example 28 out of 30 hopefully.

START with the ESSAY first or geoecology whatever you did in your school. I did culture and identity and i studied RACE , RELIGION AND LANGUAGE AS A CULTURAL INDICATOR. I have Ireland, California, Northern Ireland and then multi racial groups. Write it like an english essay but don't make it personal, lots of facts and SRPS even if you don't know anything you can pull off 50 out of 80 marks with the basic info from a revise wise. Dont forget the investigation is 20% too so don't panic too much.

  156. eh no i didnt! did u do a different paper or something?

yeah i didnt get EVERYTHING right but majority i did

i didnt say i was psychic

  157. I'm hoping for Sunningdale too, seems quite likely..! App Mussolini has never come up by himself before but it's so hard to predict..

  158. I think so but wouldnt be sure. Even do 2 or 3 whole questions right on paper 1 and like 4 on paper to. i do question 11 on maths paper 2 it's easy enough to do if you're stuck. do bits of everything from all the questions and you'll be fine

  165. I am too honestly I'm just whinging it but geography is so similar every year yeno. don't worry if you know bits of the following you will be fine! and dont forget you've your geog investigation too and the short questions are the same format every year look at your exam papers short ques from 2009 backwards just a quick flick through ok.

  223. Just wanted to open up a Leaving Cert Maths predictions post for 2011 to see what the response is like for next year. If people look like they have some good ideas for what’s coming up in next year’s maths papers, then we’ll probably open up a separate forum topic for each subject and summarise the best ideas based on past papers before the beginning of the exams next June.

  224. wordsworth and boland are potential candidates for this years poetry on the english HL paper, while cultural context looks strong for the comparative, also for the hamlet Q I would predict it would be something along the lines of hamlets mind, the philosopher or his character

  225. you can’t predict the leaving cert no more than you can predict the winner of the 3.15 at doncaster on sunday. there is no pattern- a dangerous and silly game

  226. anyone have any predictions for the home economics paper this year, especially for the social studies elective?? thanks

    1. For the elective social change and the family (the one chp of the elective i dont like lol)

Social studies comes up every year as Q5

Protein (a macro nutrient anyway) and the microwave are also likely

  227. If you figure out the pattern for Q1 for Chemistry HL, the experiment this year is going to be the dissolved oxygen experiment ! ~

  228. IRISH HIGHER LEVEL- have something prepared for natural disasters for the aiste, big possibilty ! i hope somethin on drugs or something comes up, coz last years paper was cat
