Mathematics – Higher Level.

This blog post does exactly what is says in the title..

Okay, I like Maths. Especially Algebra. Always have, always will.
* Please insert that thumping of the chest “homie” sign here*
Anyway, I’m a little disappointed in myself that I screwed myself over a tad in question 2Bi. I misread the question, over complicated and instead of simply distinguishing between “two real distinct roots” etc etc, I wrote the applicable “minus B” formulae. Shit. Okay, could be worse. But it’s annoying me and will mean that I’ll put myself under pressure for paper 2 maths, probably not a bad thing.
The paper as a whole, twas grand like. I, like Grace, was struck but the anticlimactic feel in the air. There was no quickened heart beat, no divine inspiration.. In the fact the only thing that happened that was out of the ordinary was when the superintendent announced from behind me that we have five minutes left. I swear I had NO IDEA that she was sitting directly behind me, there goes the last five years of my life anyway.. Sneaky lady.
I also found it a bit weird that they shoved integration into question three, complex numbers and matrices. The last part of sequences and series was a bit evil..
I am lucky enough that when I start an exam I don’t tend to end up with time issues so I was able to attempt all of the questions. The integration was laughable, lovely cone volume to derive, not a surprise. Another little oddity was the fact that they seemed to approach the Newton-Raphson as they would a probability, you know.. telling us a little story. I found that to be a tad unnecessary and a wasteful attempt to make an easy enough question appear to be more complex.
All in all, sound enough.

About to go sink into English 2 revision.. Along.. Hmm.. Hope that in some way that the deferred date means that the countless quotes and random sentences have more of a chance to sink in.
Not looking forward to Monday and Tuesday at all.. I am somewhat relying on cramming for Business and Irish and I know now that any “crammage” will be compromised. Oh well, we’ll keep clear heads and just flake on.

  1. i got the last part of s & s! it was up in 2000, and i had literally gone over it 5 mins before the exam! yeah the rest of it was lovely!

  2. “We’ll keep clear heads and just flake on”

Now that’s what I like to hear! -returns chest fist thump thing-

I love the anecdote involving your superintendent. Sorta slapstick.

  3. it took me a few minutes to realise what they were asking in 2 b (i) but other than that and 3 c [which i completley messed up] i think it went fine.
Here’s hoping paper 2 isn’t extra hard to make up for it!

  4. It appears the LC has made me nervy and paranoid! :p
Maria, SO JEALOUS. I did most of it but wanted to g back through the whole paper so just left it! Oh well, NEXT

  5. what the hell was up with the integration they shoved in to Q3?????
I HATE integration so never studied and planned to avoid Q 8 and do the other qs and then wat do they do? mess with our already imploding heads!!!! grrr!!!

  6. Yeah, they’ll sometimes mindfuck us with random questions in random places.

Example: Q4 was algebra a couple of years ago.. WTF.

  7. I didn’t even attempt that cos it said “hence” and I didn’t get the first bit so I was like, mneh, you’re not supposed to be here anyway.
