The Leaving Cert -

The department of education are carrying out an investigation in to why results have improved so much over the last couple of decades…

Some of you will love maths, some of you don’t mind it and will be pretty confident about passing leaving cert maths at the level you are taking it. Then there’s those of you that absolutely hate maths to the point were you just don’t wanna study it or take your leaving cert maths exam. You probably don’t see the point in maths and are wondering why you need all these x, y and z’s anyway!

A recent report shows that 1 in 2 maths teachers aren’t qualified to teach you maths. With maths failure rates on the rise every year, most of you need all the help you can get in this subject…

Here at theleavingcert.com we’re planning on building up a list of all Irish Secondary School’s on this site. We could go to another site and just copy them but that would be cheating. We’ve already done some work behind the scenes ourselves but we need your help.

Lot’s of research says that studying first thing in the morning. Maybe a few hours on Saturday and Sunday morning is the way to go then! If you’re struggling to get up, maybe you need to cut back on the partying for a few weeks.

If you check out our polls section you’ll see we have a poll called: What type of exams do you prefer? Currently 67% of voters have went for continuous assessment, with 26% going for exams and the remaining 7% of you just don’t care. Thanks everyone for voting by the way!

In our recent post Leaving Cert Predictions 2010 we received the following comment from Alice (thanks Alice ):

I know a fairly high percentage of you take grinds, or have taken grinds in something.

Most of you have the brains to get what you want / need in the leaving cert. Some people just seem to naturally do anything they’re told… they’ll have homework done as fast as it’s given to them, they’ll attend easter revision courses and grinds classes despite the fact they’ve aced their mocks…

There was an interesting article in The Irish Times today titled “Thousands of students face school shutdown“. It basically highlights the fact that the government have banned replacement workers so teachers & staff that are retiring or going on breaks for whatever reason cannot be replaced, meaning existing staff will be over stretched and they simply won’t work because they’re not being paid enough (or that’s what they say).
