Recession causes increase in classroom disruption

Story here

It has been claimed recently that the recession is leading to increased bad behavior by students in the classroom.

Teachers are claiming at their annual conferences this Easter that they are having to deal with an increasing number of disruptive students and the economic downturn is being blamed for this.

In my own school I see no difference in student behavior. I notice that the junior years seem to be more disruptive than our year would have been in junior cycle but I think that is down to a growing lack of respect among younger students.

If anything the great amount of wealth this country once had has led to materialisation of students and it has led to some students being more concerned with their Call Of Duty high score than their studies.

I think this recession is making students more aware of their surroundings and the recession will make us all better students. I reported earlier in the year that points are due to rise and that simply going to college is not enough to get a job. You need to be highly skilled to survive in the workforce and you need to apply yourself in school to succeed.

Most students recognise this now and in my case it has led to our year becoming more behaved and more focussed on our school work. Maybe this isn’t the case in other schools but I thought I’d get the ball rolling on a discussion in the comments below.
