What percentage of secondary level students complete the leaving cert?

It’s about 90% according to the latest figures from this report released by the department of education…

This figure has generally increased year by year since 1997 when just 82.3% of students who started secondary school left having completed the leaving cert. Broken down by gender, 88.36% of boys complete the leaving cert compared to 91.94% of girls (yet another academic victory for the ladies)…

Compared with our EU friends, we rank 8 of 28 nations in the “% of people aged between 20 and 24 with a secondary level education” charts, beating the likes of the UK, Sweden, Finland and Austria. Bottom of the EU pile is Spain where just 63% of students finish secondary level education…

9.7% of Irish students are classed as ‘early school leavers’ compared to the EU average of 14%.
