Back!

Hey everyone, I know it’s been a good while but rest assured that I do swing by to check out comments every second day or so! I’m sure you guys can all appreciate how hard it is to grab a spare moment to blog but I am committed to- at the very least!- one per week. Kudos to Bruno and Valerie, that comment train is really impressive!!

Ah school. It’s been ridiculously comforting going back. Like an old family pet you see after coming back from the Gaelteacht or summer holidays. Before Christmas I wanted to take Old Yeller out the back and silence his constant yelping about June and revision. Now I’ve dug up the old legend and he’s hanging above my mantlepiece. Metaphorically of course.

I could completely agree with Bruno’s last post about the snow screwing everything up. Let’s face facts here: since coming back to school my work ratehas increased dramatically. There’s routine. No more friends calling round at all hours, no extra shifts at work and no day-long marathons on Comedy Central of Scrubs or 30 Rock (I still maintain those were days well spent however). It’s fairly depressing though isn’t it? Maybe we’re all just creatures of habit or perhaps I’m obsessive compulsive about my time management. Haha people will probably think that I’m insane but it’s awesome being back and having the same old chaos to deal with. Perhaps I really will feel sad going after all!

After school study started back (as 2009’s Elizabeth hilariously christened ASS) and it’s like a blanket made of revision with added silence. Ok so there are the occasional paper planes that swoop across the hall, but hey, it’s good to have you back buddy.

Subject-wise, the ones I’m freaking out about for the mocks are probably Chemistry and Irish. I didn’t exactly kill myself working so tΓ‘ brΓ³n orm if I slip in and out of Irish because I’m really working at it over the next few days, with “An Cearrbhach MacCaba” (yeah my spelling is probably wrong…) being touted as the first batch of notes that starts the bonfire after June 22nd. Ah Irish.. that’s another post for another day. Hope ye all had a good week back and hit the ground running (so long as that snow’s gone!)

Mister X.

  1. Yes! Scrubs! I have to address my ever-increasing telly schedule in the next blog – it’s taking over my life.

Just realised that I genuinely do want to burn my Irish notebook. All of it. Poetry notes, oral notes, An Triail notes, stair….It’s frightening how excited I am at the idea of the pages burning. πŸ™‚

    1. Mmm.. Crispy “An Bhean Γ“g” served up with BBQ-ed “Gealt?”

Cannibalism has never seemed so appetising.

    2. Well I was thinking of a more literal translation, as in eating “The Young Woman” and the “Madman”, but I can see how it’d be interpreted that way.
That would be damn cool though. Being a tree and all that. I’ve always had a growing sense of something earth-like about me.

…Must be my roots. I really hope I can branch out into an interesting career in life. When I leaf home that is. πŸ˜‰

Ouch, that last pun was so bad it hurt.

  2. I agree with you, Mister X, returning to school has done wonders to my starting to work hard again. I don’t think you’re insane, that chaos of which you speak is (at least to me and you) what gets us working harder πŸ™‚ I hope you do well in both Chemistry and Irish, and that you can keep up that pace of study till the mocks.

    1. I’ve put Trinity, RCSI, Galway, UCD and UCC in that order. I was wondering if I’d do a post on Open Days and the general view of the places, dunno if people’d be bothered with that! It’s the location of it, it’s insanely central and a really cool place… but yeah the points are making it look terrifying. I liked RCSI though… as for HPAT, yeah it’s a bit of a mess in Section 3 and I need to control my timing in Section 1. Section 2 I found fine, but then Jennie mentioned in a post last year she found it hard after expecting it to be her best? Dunno all about those prep courses either, the folks have paid a lot for grinds/books and stuff over the year… College/HPAT for you zzz?

  3. Irish Paper 2 was always made of FAIL.

If you just memorise loads of notes you’ll be fine though πŸ™‚

    1. Hey look! It’s Jennie! Come to flaunt her educational superiority over all of you! Yay! For once it’s not me living in her shadow…

    2. Pffft you got Maynooth right Emerald? Ireland’s PARTY Town more like it πŸ˜› You’re laughin!!

    3. Aaaaaah the comprehensions are terrifying on Paper 1 now in all fairness.. Am I alone in learning more complicated sentences off by heart? Like Cearrbhach’s wishes?

  4. Oooh I remember scary chemistry alright… All I can suggest is don’t freak out cos it’ll probably all make sense some time in April. That’s what I found, all of a sudden it clicked and I loved it and got it : )

    1. Thanks RoisΓn, I’m not alone so!! Starting diving into it the past few days and I really like it. Took a long time, guess it was just something like post-natal depression there for a few months πŸ˜›

    2. See, there ya go, it’ll be grand! : ) I found Revise Wise super handy for chem, if you’re looking for one of those type books.

  5. Mister X, i put down trinity, UCD, galway, UCC and RSI and in that order. Hpat official practice test, didnt find it too bad. 82/110. Messed up in section 3 and I have same problem in timing in Section 1. Section 2 i only got 2 wrong but like u sed i heard Sec 2 is meant to be 10 times harder in the real thing as is the overall exam.

    1. Yeah it’s pretty bad for the waffles. The only thing I will say about it is that it’s pretty fair in that you either know the stuff or you don’t. Some people can turn one SRP into two with their flair for English. Or maybe it’s that some people condense them when revising. Either way, if you’re good at English it seems you’ve an advantage with Geog/History.

Now learning all those experiments, that is fun.
