exam hall phone etiquette

Lets face it, your phone goes everywhere with you. But technically you’re not allowed bring it in to the exam hall with you. So what do you do with your phone whilst your sitting exams?

Do you leave it outside in your bag with a big ‘STEAL ME’ sign on it? No, but that’s what the guys who set the rules say you should do. Take your phone in to the exam hall, but for the love of god put it on silent!

Don’t let anyone tell you to put your highly valuable personal possessions outside, where strangers get to look after them for you if in fact there is anyone looking after them at all. If you have anything of value (purses, wallets, phones, sat navs etc..) here’s where to put them in order of priority;

  • leave them at home
  • in your pocket

If you happen to get stabbed on the way home and don’t have a phone on you to call for help because you couldn’t take one in to the exam hall and didn’t want to risk leaving it outside in a bag, what happens then? You don’t have a phone so your chances of survival decrease due to the energy you’ll expel trying to get a phone or get help.

Ok, so this is really doomsday scenario type stuff, but don’t think this stuff doesn’t happen… people know that where there are exams on, there are unattended bags outside and many of them will contain something of value.

Unless your school can guarantee the safety & protection of your possessions, don’t leave your stuff lying around the grounds or outside of your view. It could just ruin your leaving cert.

Take your phone in with you (if you can’t store it somewhere secure) and just keep it out of sight and on silent or switched off. And make sure no alarms or reminders are set. Nobody will bother you and everyone goes away happy apart from the thieves who leave empty handed.

If you’ve ever had something stolen or know somebody who’s had stuff stolen whilst they were sitting exams, please drop us a comment below to show that this stuff DOES happen and it just might help prevent some poor sucker from losing an ipod or phone over the next few weeks…

  1. I done my Junior Cert last year and before the exam we were to leave our phones on the table with the door attendent where they would be ‘taken care of’ until we came back out, but when i came out my phone had been stolen off the table and ive never heard anything about it since… i reported it to the principal and everything but nothing happened!! So DONT leave your phone with anybody!!!!!!!!!
