Laziness vs. Study

It has been little over 20 days, since my last post here. For me, the mocks start on the 22nd of February, which means that I still have a nice amount of time to do my study. No, I haven’t started yet. My week back to school started out very well, but somewhere along the line, I fell into a long phase of pure laziness. The result? I did the bare minimum to get through the days (and it is also the reason for my delay in writing another post, I just didn’t feel it).

I barely remember all the Interpretation of Accounts formulas and definitions (it’s what we’re doing in Accounting at the moment), I haven’t bothered learning them off yet. I have been trying to study, I seriously have, but I just don’t feel it. I need one of those jolts of energy, that just make you want to take on the world (anyone here ever had one of those?).

We had a maths competition on Friday, and in preparation for it, I actually studied a lot. Maths is my favourite subject, so it was interesting, at least for me. We ended up not winning, and I cannot help but feeling that this surge of laziness has something to do with it, at least as far as my performance is concerned, since I believe I could do much better. Now I have a cold, and I am feeling even less willing to do anything.

I cross my fingers and hope that that jolt of energy comes this week to make me study incessantly until the mocks come around. If not, I need a punishment, something that will make really regret not studying. Any ideas? 😉

What do you do to force yourself to study when you just don’t feel like it?

  1. It sounds crazy, but if I find it hard going with the study and I really have to cover a topic, I take to the ‘net. Especially with the Science subjects, there’s just so many great YouTube videos out there. They mightn’t fit our syllabus perfectly, but they really help remember stuff or “get” a concept. I’m sure SparkNotes has been well-touted for notes, as well as skoool.ie (due updates tho… has it gone off the radar or what?)

It is hard to motivate yourself to study though. I think that breaking story Annah and David posted about with certainly help me study a bit more!

  2. That sounds interesting, actually. That’d certainly be beneficial for Biology! 😛 I am setting up a maths study club with a few friends of mine, where I’ll be helping them out with Maths 😛 That will help me with Maths revision. I was also considering forcing my friends from the french class to speak french with me, which would help us all in improving our french skills (trying to talk french with each other every day until june would REALLY make a difference, in my opinion). When I’m at home, though, I feel that I could just go on the computer and put study off till the next day. It isn’t good when I do that 😛 You’re right, though, their posts do bring a sense of urgency to my study :

  3. ong i have the same problem i have just started bak to skul after my midterm and i really did mean to start a fresh it hasnt worked i did my mocks there the week before my exams and i fouind my self sitting there not being able to write a bit..otherwise i found myself running out of time. maths is my worst subject when it comes to exams i do great in class tests but in the mock i could barely answer a question but i never really studied for the mocks..

  4. I’m so fucking fucked, it’s unfucking believable to be fucking honest. Two weeks until the fucking leaving cert and I’m starting to open the books. Do any of you think 14 days of solid study can get me 370 points? for fuck sake.
