government snooker themselves

There was an interesting article in The Irish Times today titled “Thousands of students face school shutdown“. It basically highlights the fact that the government have banned replacement workers so teachers & staff that are retiring or going on breaks for whatever reason cannot be replaced, meaning existing staff will be over stretched and they simply won’t work because they’re not being paid enough (or that’s what they say).

Worst case scenario is that schools shut down permanently and you’re all chucked out of education in to the real world. Teachers lose their jobs and education is scrapped to help bail out banks. But that probably won’t happen 😉 which makes the article in the times slightly sensationalist…

Still, it’s worth noting that the government have indeed snookered themselves and they’ll either have to pay teachers more or hire more staff – two things they’ve said they won’t do previously and continue to say today.

Perhaps someone should bring it to their attention that there’s a big brick wall in the road ahead. As things stand they haven’t seen it and are maintaining their speed…
