Music 5th Year

I’m in TY and need alot of points for my LC for the course I want to Do. I’ve already got 7 subjects picked to do in school but I also want to do music. I got an A in the Junior Cert and I do alot of music anyway. Wondering does anyone do it outside of school ? Would you recommend doing an 8th subject or is it too much ? If I was to do it in school id be giving up History to do it. Any ideas anyone?

  1. Hey there, I have no clue about music whatsoever as I am as musically talented as a stone but I did take up an extra subject for the leaving so now I’ve got 8 (excluding LCVP). Honestly it’s tough going. I took up geography at the start of November for points purposes and it’s pretty demanding. If you’ve got the motivation to take up an extra subject then go for it especially if it’s one you like or are good at ๐Ÿ™‚ Just make sure you delegate as much study time to your 8th subject as you do to your others ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank You ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve kinda decided to do music in school and I’m going to do History outside of school as my uncle is a history teacher and he’s going to help me out. Thanks for replying ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. i dont have idea about that sorry about do whatever you to do or your parents leaving cert really hard so i am in 5th year is tough for me i really don,t understand

  3. Easy way to work it out is, add up how many hours you will be spending in class per week per subject.
    Eg. English 5 days a week @40 mins per class = 3.33Hrs
Then you need to decide can you put in those extra hours for that subject outside school and you will need to add on additional study + homework time. So how bad you want to do it?

  4. Jess is making alot of sense there..-listen to that girl….!!!

Okay 1. i dont do music but your second question i am doing.

I did TY last year and am in 5th now i picked 8 honours and went in the first day of 5th year with my goal in mind for LC to get high points. (French not music is my outside subject also i got A in this subject in JC) I WAS expecting to hold my 8 honours until the exams…. 2 weeks ago i decided i would drop to pass english, ….. Just what i am trying to get across is that you shouldnt think that HIGHER level is better NO the LC is all about points no body cares what you take to get your 6 A1’s whether they are the supposebly 6 easiest subjects… at the end of the day do the Higher evel subjects that you are gonna count and will get high grades in…. i was always poor at writing english essays, MB, etc.etc… so it was just sensible for me to cut all ties with the subject i spent 6 classes a week in Higher level each 40min and at night another 30-45 each day 7 day a week…. now my course is much easier no HM and to be honest i have a million more minutes to focus on my other 7 subjects…. NOTE: where i can also fall back on one…

Hope that helps, give me an email if you want to hear more…

i did music in ty and was considering it outside of school in fifth yr but i realised that it was going to be a lot of work so i decided no to do music, i’m doing history and its hard work especially with the 20% essay but i love the subject and hope to study it next year. good luck with studying it outside of school ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I am doing eight subjects and it will be hard to manage them all. You would need to pay a lot of attention to history, its a really long and demanding course.

  7. most people think that they will stick to these goals before they start the leaving cert. im not saying you will or will not stick to these goals cause i dont no you. but when you think about it only six of your best subjects ate counted. only do an extra subject if you know itll be in your brst six if not just concentrate on your others. i done history and it was my demanding subject after higher maths. seriously think about what you are doing. it doesnt mater how many subjects you do it only maters how well you do in your best six

  8. Hey, i was in your situation too.. i do music outside of school and its such an easy way to pick up points! I was doing 8 subjects until christmas in 5th year and my teacher advised me to drop one so i dropped chem.. and it was the best thing i ever did! honestly its too much doing 8 when your counting six, drop to pass in your worst and concentrate hard on the 6 you will count! there is no point in studying a higher level subject if your not counting it! you will have so much more time for other subjects!
