leaving cert question goes viral…

You know that question we asked on our Facebook page less than 48 hours ago? Yeah, the one which 37,500 (and counting!) of you have voted on so far? Well it’s prompted us to get more active on Facebook because we know that’s where you lot are. Websites? Forums? So last decade…

Tell us what you want to talk about

Because we’ve gained about 100 new ‘fans’ on Facebook over the weekend and our page and site has been exposed to literally thousands of facebook users, we’ve also gotten plenty of comments from you guys which have sparked many debates.

Niamh poses the question;

Should Leaving Cert. students really be presented with a CAO form and pressured to fill one in and send it off? Or should that be left to the student’s own privacy? I think there isn’t enough of the spotlight given to other options, e.g. PLCs, gap years etc…

Karl calls it as it is for many students around the country;

Whats the point!.. Theres not really any opportunities in this country anymore, Better off looking abroad…

Holly is current LC’er who has done a u-turn on Irish since junior cert;

I love Irish now, ever since the start of 5th year. I really enjoy it and I know it’s going to help me out with points. People don’t complain about Irish in the senior cycle like they did before. You need a certain level of maturity to realise that this is our language, our heritage, our pride. It’s one of the increasingly few things that separate us from Britain or America. Look around. How many things do we have left that are truly ours? I also thing it’s worth noting that I know many foreign nationals who’ve learned basic Irish and are damn proud of it because it’s the true language of the country they have made their home. Food for thought, is it not?

Food for thought indeed Holly and we want to put on a feast of food for you guys to think about (ok, that joke sounded better in our heads!). We will be creating new questions on Facebook but we’re eager not to spam the living daylights out of all of our fans so only the best questions and ideas will be published on our Facebook page where hopefully they’ll get a similar response to our now famous “Should Irish be compulsory the leaving cert?” question.

You decide!

Do you have a question that divides people? That creates debate? That has never been clearly answered before on a mass scale? If so, let us know about it either here in the comments section below, in private, on our Facebook or our Twitter.

  1. Why do we have such thing as time pressure in the LC exams? Aren’t we meant to prove our newly learned knowledge rather than race?

  2. I think that basing all your studies and knowledge on 1 exam for each subject is unbelievable. Students shouldn’t have to be faced with this amount of pressure to pretty much decide their future. Continuous Assesments throughout the year (which consists of 80% of your total grade) and having the actual leaving cert test’s grades consist of the other 20%, sounds much better, this way students are more focused throughout the whole senior period and dont face as much pressure prior to ‘Judgement Day’ on the 8th of June. I would like this to be known and discussed so that people have a scant knownledge of where im coming from. Thanks.
